Writers Write

Synopsis of current projects:

Original Fiction

I am moving forward with my idea for an original piece. I don’t quite have a firm title yet but my tentative title is Caged Bird Singing, sort of a play off of Maya Angelou’s first novel. Update 12.29.09- This will be my 2010 project. I’ll be posting what I have of Chapter 1 soon after Jan 1.

Rachelle Nixon is a superstar: rich, famous, talented, world renowned– in her mind. She has a dream, and that is to sing. She has an obstacle– two of them– and those are her parents. Rachelle feels stuck, trapped by her family and held down by her responsibility to them, caged by her parent’s expectations of her. What she wants most is take the chance of a lifetime and sing her heart out– instead she’s working at a record store and playing mommy to five younger siblings while her parents both work to keep the family afloat. When Rachelle’s chance comes, she jumps at it, though the odds are stacked against her. She’s “discovered” by a slick, smooth talking manager with a lot of big names under his belt and high powered connections who wants to thrust her into pop stardom. At first Rachelle thinks this is her dream come true but slowly– and way too late– she realizes that the music business isn’t much about music, and no one comes out the way they went in.

Fanfiction

Name: All I Wanna Do

This story started as a writing prompt from writersdigest.com. The assignment was to write about meeting your favorite celebrity on an airplane. Since I *hate* writing about myself, I invented a character and wrote a pretty good start. A few friends read it and said ‘keep going’. I needed the practice, and the storyline was interesting to me, so I did.  This story is still in progress.

Status: Incomplete

Fandom/Character: *Nsync/ JC Chasez

Summary:  Few events are as life-changing as a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles, but when Serena Willis meets singer/songwriter/producer JC Chasez on a cross country flight, her life begins to change instantly. Sparks fly in the skies and Serena takes a chance and accepts an invitation she couldn’t possibly refuse. But will this be just a weekend fling, or is this chance meeting destined to be more than either of them bargained for?
