Potter Lake, GA is a small town filled with life and love, where the hustle and bustle slows down just enough to notice what— and who is around you.
For recent transplants Sage Owens and Bennett Alexander, their greatest losses marked the end of to have and to hold. While time marches on, it doesn’t move in reverse; it doesn’t bring back the love of your life.
These two souls are drawn together in this quaint town and discover that their meeting is not so accidental but fated. What time may bring this holiday season is a second chance at love.
I don’t remember exactly what prompted this story, to be honest. Somewhere between conversations about mature characters and not wanting to write the same thing everyone else was writing, Sage and Bennett formed in my mind. I’m always nervous to talk about a book because I feel like, even if I plan it to the nth degree, it could fall apart at any second. Or, if I finish it, it ends up being boring and not really what I was going for. You know, Author Worries!
Good news, though! Second Time Around turned out to be exactly what I wanted. A lot of sweet romance, a little bit of heat, and characters that aren’t “rock the runway” gorgeous or “male model” fine… though I do love me a good lookin’ character. I longed to write about regular degular schmegular people… and I felt like that could happen in no other place but Potter Lake.
Speaking of, it won’t be necessary to read Leslie’s Curl & Dye to understand the story, but the cameos will be more meaningful if you have read it!
This title is available on Kindle Unlimited for a limited time! Grab it at Amazon HERE.
Toss in the trappings of a life that, in their own ways and for their own reasons, they’re trying to leave behind, plus the women who seem to want to “rescue” them, and In These Streets is quick-but-packed read about three men who learn that sometimes you can’t count on anyone but those who’ve known you the longest and the best.
I am already poised for book two, because in true Shelly Ellis form, this book leaves you wanting more, more, more!
Grab some popcorn and a drank and sit down with this book… you won’t want to stop until the end!
These books mean a lot to me and hold more than a few good memories. They provided a back list for me when i needed it, however I find myself increasingly embarrassed at the low quality of the writing and formatting, and more specifically the editing. I may go back and do some serious editing and rewriting and offer them as freebies on other platforms, but for now, they’re coming down.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted: A Novel by Jayne Allen Genres: African American, Contemporary Women, Fiction Buy on Amazon Goodreads “Black girls must die exhausted” is something that 33-year-old Tabitha Walker has heard her grandmother say before. Of course, her grandmother (who happens to be white) was referring to the 1950’s and what she observed in the nascent times of civil rights. With a coveted position as a local news reporter, a “paper-perfect” boyfriend, and a standing Saturday morning appointment with a reliable hairstylist, Tabitha never imagined how this phrase could apply to her as a black girl in contemporary times – that is, until everything changed. An unexpected doctor’s […]

by Danielle Allen Genres: African American Romance, Contemporary Women ABOUT THE BOOK He has a big…smile. It was the first thing I noticed that day until he stood. His grey sweatpants hung off his hips and I didn’t want to look. I really didn’t. I’m a feminist. I don’t believe in objectifying men. I don’t catcall men. I don’t ogle the bodies of men. I don’t view men as objects of my affection rather than complex people with feelings, wants, and needs of their own. I don’t treat men the way society often treats women. I treat men the way I want to be treated as a woman—with respect! So, […]
