First, I’ve posted a new chapter to All I Wanna Do. I swear I never meant for this story to be an epic, but I also don’t want to truncate the story. Decisions, decisions. I’m starting to long for it to end, though. Do something new. I can’t even imagine how novelists keep writing the same damn story for hundreds of pages.
I’ve been reading a lot on tips and pointers, things to do and not to do, and trying to apply them to whatever I’m working on. Recently I’m trying to get rid of anything ending in -ly (i.e. he looked at the burger hungrily. *rolleyes* I don’t think I was doing a lot of that but I’ve caught a few, usually weak chapters where I really just wanted it to be over). I’m also targeting -ing words (‘She sat on the bench, watching him feed the birds’, or even worse ‘picking up the mug, he took a long swallow of beer’). Very slowly, I am working toward not sounding like an amateur.

I keep thinking that someday I will go back and correct everything I see wrong on the things I’ve written before, but on second thought, I’ll just leave it. I think I need to see a large delta of change and improvement (and I do). What’s scary is that while I’m writing it, I really do think it’s awesome. And then it’s weeks or months later and I go back and read and *facepalm*. Oh, well. It’s good I can see it, no?

So the new chapter is up at the *Nsync fiction archive and also at my own site. YAY! I set up The Sweet Escape last week, to hold all my ‘stuff’. Not that I think so much of myself that I need a website, but since I keep my writing posts under a filter, I didn’t want my friends to have to join and then be filtered in to see what I write. It also lets me keep everything in one place and add chapters, etc as I please instead of trying to maintain a blog and manage stories by tags. Blah, blah, blah.

I’ve reset the timer on the Get Your Words Out 2009 Initiative. Aiming for 300K words, which I am sure I will exceed because I *think* I am going to try to do NaNoWriMo. I’ve been really intimidated by it in the past, but I think I might try it. Maybe. I don’t know. I’m researching.

Anyone ever do it? What was your experience?

ETA: I signed up. HOLY *#(@)@!!
